Health & safety policy.
How Connor looks after you, your home and himself on every job.
Our commitment
The Odd Job Father (Connor Gardner) is committed to carrying out all work safely and with care for customers, their families, their homes and the public. Every job, however small, is planned with safety in mind before work begins.
Before work starts
- Each job is discussed with you first so any risks can be identified early.
- For more involved jobs, a risk assessment and method statement (RAMS) is prepared before work begins.
- The work area is checked for hazards such as uneven floors, low ceilings, pets and obstructions.
While working in your home
- Work areas are kept tidy, and tools and materials are stored safely when not in use.
- Dust sheets and protective coverings are used where needed to protect your floors and furniture.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) — such as safety footwear, gloves, eye protection and dust masks — is used for the task at hand.
- Power tools are checked before use and operated in line with the manufacturer's instructions.
- Children and pets are kept away from the work area — your help with this is always appreciated.
Waste and materials
Waste is removed and disposed of responsibly, subject to availability and applicable waste-carrier requirements. Materials are used and stored in line with the manufacturer's guidance.
Working at height and manual handling
Ladders and access equipment are inspected before use and set up on stable ground. Heavy items are lifted using safe handling techniques, and help is arranged where an item is too heavy for one person.
If something goes wrong
Any accident, injury or damage is reported to you straight away and recorded. Work stops immediately if a situation becomes unsafe, and it only resumes once the risk has been dealt with.
Your part
Please let Connor know about anything that could affect safety before work starts — for example loose floorboards, known asbestos in older properties, water leaks near electrics, or family members with allergies to dust or materials.
Review
This policy is reviewed regularly and updated as the business grows. If you have any questions about how a job will be carried out safely, just ask.
